Berlaymont Building

The Beating Heart of Europe

The Berlaymont, located on the north side of the Rue de la Loi in Brussels, was completed in 1969 and houses the headquarters of the European Commission. The Europa Building, where the European Council and the Council of the European Union are located, is just one street away from the Berlaymont.

Brussels, the capital of Belgium, is the seat of the EU headquarters, where the EU institutions, including the European Commission, the Council of the EU, the European Council, and the European Parliament, are located. Along the Rue de la Loi (Wetstraat, Law Street), are a number of modern buildings of different styles, among which the Berlaymont on the north side of the street is considered the symbol of the European Union.

Built in 1969, as home to European Commission Headquarters, the Berlaymont is where many important decisions concerning the fate of the world were made, in its European Commission conference rooms on the 13th floor. The X-shaped Structure makes the Bellemain Building particularly striking. After a 13-year renovation at the end of the last century, Berlaymont has restored its former glory.

Manywhere Trivia:
The discussion about whether it should be a renovation or completely reconstruction went on for a long time.

The other EU institutions are not too far away, and the Europa Building, where the European Council and the Council of the European Union are located, is just a block away from the Berlaymont, the lantern-shaped meeting rooms inside the building looking hazy and mysterious at night.
